The region of Apaneca-Llamatepic is known not only for the Los Volcanes Complex but also for some of the world's best coffee beans. This same chain of volcanoes, along with its cloud forest and a pleasant climate, made it one of Central America's prime specialty coffee-producing areas.

For this coffee, we traveled to Finca La Providencia. It is a sprawling 70-hectare coffee estate that sits in the same mountain range. Bordering the biological corridor near the Parque Nacional El Imposible, this farm is situated between 1,100 to 1,300 above sea level, the perfect elevation for producing the finest Caturra variety. This estate is currently run by fourth-generation coffee producers Fernando Alfaro and Jose Enrique Gutierrez. These coffee beans have been grown, harvested, washed, and dried under strict quality control guidelines. It is then carefully hand-roasted to capture the rich, complex flavor that the region is known for!

This particular variety hits your palate with deep molasses and raw cane sugar notes with a lingering hint of prunes and strawberries before yielding to a smooth caramel finish.
